Lunar Schefflera
Lunar Schefflera
Oil on Canvas, 24" x 30"
This painting is interesting, in a way. Originally, this composition came about during an assignment in a painting class while I was in college. Our professor had put a schefflera plant in the center of the room, and told us to paint it in non-realistic colors. We were given freedom beyond that. Most of the students just painted exactly what they saw, the plant sitting on the wooden pedestal. One of my friends painted tiny faces within the leaves. I created this.
Over the years, I've had multiple people tell me this was their favorite painting of mine, after viewing what I had. Then last year, after I had promised a friend a painting as a wedding present, he said he wanted this painting. Now, the original painting was an old student painting, made with cheap materials, starting to crack and carrying a number of scrapes. I didn't want to give him that, so I repainted it, staying really close to the original, but making improvements here and there. This image is taken from that new painting.
